Mew - No More Stories. Mew are a Danish 4-piece dream pop/rock band and sound like a poppier shorter and less progressive version of Sigur Ros.

Kings of Convenience - Declaration of Dependence. The 3rd album of acclaimed Norwegian folk-pop duo is avail here as import pressing and their earlier 2 albums are on Amazon UK @ great price.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Today's topic is very grey hued
Sarah McLachlan - Solace. I always wondered why her 2nd album is not avail here but the 1st is. The answer is on the rear sleeve.

George Michael - Listen Without Prejudice Vol 1. Had this on cassette during my student days and just had to get the CD when it was on sale on Amazon UK. Bright recording with lotsa sibilance that will sound crappy on lesser systems.

Goldfrapp - Felt Mountain. To me still the best and very different from latter albums. Best listen with lights dimmed to the max preferably in a smokey bar.

St. Vincent - Marry Me. St. Vincent aka Annie Clark has a great indie pop/rock/alternative debut. Can't wait to buy her sophomore album.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Massive Attack - Heligoland. Had this on order since a long long time ago and finally came in time for CNY. Nowhere near Mezzanine but certaintly better than 100th Window. I put this on repeat for > 4 hrs to help to run-in my Clearlines

Zero 7 - Simple Things. Wanted to like their latest "Yeah Ghost" but unfortunately the best review I can give is nowhere near this - their debut album. Also using this to run-in my Clearlines..

The Audiophysic Scorpio works well at low volumes too. Its nearly 1am and the Missus is asleep upstairs but am really enjoying myself as well as running-in the home audition Clearaudio Diamond Powerline power cable for my amp. The Powerline really brings more poise and precision to the table..
Pink Floyd - The Wall. Perfect for late night listening..

Eddi Reader with The Patron Saints of Imperfection - Mirmama. Got this many many moons ago back when I was still a student in the UK. Eddie Reader's 1st solo album after her departure from Fairground Attraction. Really excellent recording which I've been enjoying occasionally for more than 15 years and to my ears the best Eddi Reader album and there are quite a few others..

Dear Ilsaw, u have some excellent music.
I have the Wall on vinyl, bought in UK, hmm.. or was it Ireland in '79.
It is an unbelieveably fabulous album, musically and sonically.
Prob the best engineered vinyl that i have - amazing transients in those little grooves.
Regards
SM

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Mew - And The Glass Handed Kites. Forget the cheesy B-grade horror movie cover. I would rate this as good as "No More Stories.." if not better. Both albums have similar musical direction..

Pink Floyd - Animals. I actually prefer this to the seminal "Wish You Were Here"

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Was testing the bass n tweaking spkr placement last nite so had to play some bits and played these apart from Massive Attack's latest and "Mezzanine"
Underworld - Second Toughest in the Infants

Talvin Singh - OK

Damien Rice - O. For a 'folk' album this has oodles of bass! Play track #3 "The Blower's Daughter" and you'll get what I mean.

Orbital - In Sides. My classic electronic/techno album. Have been using "Box" and "Dwr Budr" as test tracks for > 12 years.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Sigur Ros - Með suð à eyrum við spilum endalaust (with a buzz in our ears we play endlessly). Sorry better not show the errr controversial cover. Poppier in nature than their last album the fab "Takk" but better than the pretentious (to me) and slower "()". Don't dig the last song which is in Engrish though..

Hi Leonard,
Kinda difficult to pigeonhole Sigur Ros. Guess you can equate them to anything from new age to ambient to progressive/space rock to even metal to.. just Sigur Ros style. Very beautiful even though lyrics are mostly in Icelandic or Hopelandic which is the errr language created by Sigur Ros to serve their music. If you've heard of vocalised intonation music like Adiemus you'll get the picture on what Hopelandic is about. Pretentious or pompous or progressive? U decide.

Yeah Judas Priest covered that song. It's originally written by Joan Baez. My all time favorite Judas Priest song is Victim of Changes. I still remember I was in my younger days, I had the Painkiller tour t-shirt.

Elbow - Cast of Thousands. Elbow's one of my fav Brit alternative rock bands and this their 2nd album is IMHO the best! Most people seem to dig "Seldom Seen Kid" probably because of the Mercury win but I still prefer this..

Elbow - Asleep at the Back. Their debut album but second best to me.

And.. Elbow - Seldom Seen Kid

XX- The XX. XX's style is an amalgation of pop, alt-rock, electronica, etc and this is their debut album. I think we also call this style rojak
And great cover to depict the end of the day which is wny physical media such as CD and LP are so much more fun to old timers like me compared with downloads/files..

I used to download a lot few years back but my work schedule lately has been a nightmare. My life is a constant flashbacks of airports, single meal servings, foreign places and people. But on the bright side, I sometimes get to buy cds which are hard to be found in M'sia. Otherwise, I'd do online CDs purchase. I totally support mp3 downloads to discover new music, but if I like the music enough, I usually end up buying the cds. There are just too many good bands/ artist to be discovered.
