Lenco turntable project - 29/06/16 more progress

Post by sph on Mon Apr 27, 2015 10:15 pm

hi Lenco enthusiasts,

I am sure many of you have heard of the PTP which is used to bring the Lenco turntable to another level of performance.

The original PTP is way off my budget. But the PTP concept did interest me and I decided to make my own version of the PTP for less money.
So the last few weeks I have been having a closer look at my Lenco to see how I can come up with a decent design for the top plate.

I have finally made a prototype from mild steel and the testing was done over last 2 days. The result was highly satisfactory. What needs to be done now is to have the top plate done in 4mm stainless steel plate.

A few friends from this forum have already expressed their interest in the top plate and are eagerly waiting for the finished product. I am thinking of making a batch of 10 plates to be able to negotiate a good price for CNCing the top plate. 6 units have been booked, leaving 4 available.

I am offering the remaining 4 to forum members. Each plate will cost MYR----ringgit. The final figure has yet to be negotiated. Price now is MYR450. If interested, PM or WhatsApp me (012-218 8600, no calls pease) as soon as possible for more details and photos of the project.

Cheers.

The first finished sample (made from 4mm stainless steel) of the top plate was delivered to me today.

The top-plate was mounted on a mock plinth for a trial run. Very happy with the results.

The top plates are being implemented in my current Lenco project.
The plinth awaits gluing the layers of plywood and finishing while the tonearm a head-shell (diy too).
The tonearm is a diy Well Tempered Arm.

More progress

My "Project Lenco" has now advanced into new territory.

I have made accessories to bring the Lenco to another level, the most significant of which is the stainless steel mat, the SSSmat (MYR380).
The mat is made from the same 4mm stainless steel as the top plates and weighs 2kg. The 2kg weight gives the platter system added inertia which results in greater rotational stability of the platter.

Another accessory is the bearing clamping collar (MYR90). This again is made from 4mm stainless steel. The purpose is to stiffen the area surrounding the bearing to reduce the flexing of the thin 2mm steel top plate. Sold many in Lencoheaven and eBay already.

Another accessory (more like a replacement part or tweak) is the 2 tungsten carbide bearing balls and POM thrust pad (MYR30 3-items combo)
First is the 2.5mm ball which replaces the thrust pad in the motor nose screw. See the link in Lencoheaven http://www.lencoheaven.net/forum/index.php?topic=6100.0
This tweak makes the motor more silent.
Next tweak is the 5mm tungsten ball with the 1mm thick POM pad. POM is short for polyoxymethylene, which is hard but smooth kind of plastic. In most Lencos the 0.5mm Nylatron thrust pad is often badly dimpled by the steel ball from the pressure exerted by the weight of the platter. The result from this tweak is a smoother rotation from the bearing.
PM or WhatsApp me 012-2188600 (no calls please) for inquiries.

Yes, it is a Schroeder arm - a customer's. Installed onto the SLAT-ed Lenco.

The main parts are all from the Lenco 70, 75 or 78 turntable. These are the motor, bearing and idler wheel assembly.
The other hardware are available from me. These parts are the SLAT (top plates) and its accessories ( manual speed lever, on-off/park lever, string kit) and the stainless steel armboard.
