HDD type for audio

Post by alchemis on Thu Aug 03, 2017 7:30 pm

Hi guys,

i recently purchase auralic aries mini as an upgrade to my system. some day i'm ditching my Cd collection.
before that i need a storage.

Auralic Aries mini provide 3 type of storage
1) networked connection WIFI and LAN
2) USB connection
3)  internal HDD mounting it inside the casing of the DAC

option 1 is out because when play large DSD file, i'll have problem. 700 mb per song is not loading well. moreover my computer is on WIFI.. so it's too slow.

option 2 and 3 will be fine for me. but i have concern.

some say USB they have interference on the cable.. need good cable etc etc etc...
some say mounting HDD is better....
but mounting HDD using SSD of course is best case but $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

my question here is that...

mounting spinning platter HDD under the DAC will cause interference to my system ?

i need some ideas balancing out the noises between mounting using USB or direct to the system.

Ok, my bad. The Auralic is the DAC.
From my experience, the SATA connection is superior to USB. The vibration issue is a lesser evil of the two, i.e. Compared to USB

I would put 4 thin rubber or plastic washers in between the HDD housing and the Auralic chasis, where the screw holes are located. This will lessen the transfer of vibration to the DAC.
